Gastown darlings Scott Walhovd and Anthony Castro debuted their SS09 Collection at Heritage Hall on November 4th. Despite showing on the same day as the US Election, the boys’ magnetism drew the Vancouver fashion crowd: writer Terri Portratz, photographer Kris Krug, and stylist Luisa Rino were in attendance.

This more mature collection draws inspiration from “New York’s 1989 synth-pop-rock artistry.” Though I’m not too familiar with that era, I can easily see the references to warm summer days spent on the French Riviera. The collection is romantic, relaxed, and has enough subtle detail to keep you wanting more. At the end of the show I heard quite a few people in excited fashionpassion say they wanted the entire collection.

This season’s looks continues the high-waisted pant trend. For (212), Spring 2009 means super tight high-waisted pants and shorts with tucked in loose tops. Details that caught my eye were the unabashed full front zip on shorts and denim and decidedly understated ruffles and colours. My favourite was the light charcoal parachute jumpsuit (yes, I’m in love). With the cuffs rolled way up, this is one unrevealing but hot style.

Though not known exclusively for tree-hugging eco-friendliness, everything is manufactured here except for the knits, which are made in China where they do majority of the world’s cashmere and are of better quality than of local manufacturers. Visit (212) at 454 Cordova next season for these great looks. (It’s a shame they the address isn’t 212 Cordova, eh ;P)
